The Cartier Santos was the first mass-produced men’s wristwatch, designed back in 1904 when Alberto Santos-Dumont discussed with his friend Louis Cartier about the challenge of using a pocket watch whilst operating an airplane. It featured a square dial, screwed on bezel and integrated lugs. There's no doubt that the Santos is a record-breaking watch. However with a retail price of £6,750, the Cartier Santos is too expensive for most of us.
